Imagine Life Without a Home

This is the reality for the homeless young adults that we work with. Too many of them are living traumatic lives and experiencing family breakdown, bereavement, depression or abuse.

Join us in our fundraising and help Leicestershire’s young homeless find a safe place to call home. Attend an organised event, sign-up to a challenge or create one of your own. Whatever you decide to do, we are on hand to help you in your efforts. Contact Michelle on 0116 204 6227 or email to find out more.

Winter Warmers

We are currently on the look-out for winter coats and warm clothing. If you have any of these items that you wish to donate please bring them to either The Y, 7 East Street, Leicester, LE1 6EY or to our Aylestone Centre at Belvoir Drive, Leicester. LE2 8PW. We are happy to accept any donations of non-perishable food.

Shoebox initiative

If you would like to directly support a resident by donating a shoebox of toiletries for when a young homeless person moves in to one of our properties or you are a school or business and would like to get involved this way, please contact Michelle on 0116 204 6227 or email.

Decide how we spend theatre ticket round up donations

When our theatre customers purchase a ticket they have the option to round up their purchase to the nearest £5 as a donation to The Y. This year we will use this fund to develop one creative project to enrich the lives of young people. By voting you can decide which idea will be developed.

"Mum said she didn't want me"

From as young as three Carly was passed around different family members, never feeling loved or settled during her childhood. At age seventeen she was kicked out, leaving her homeless and vulnerable. Trying to live independently Carly suffered months of violent abuse at the hands of her partner, including a hospital stay with broken ribs. With mounting depression Carly tried to take her own life. When Carly moved to TheY she had no family support and nowhere else to turn.

“I know I’m safe here and I can sleep now; I was so tired. Before I was trying to cope every day on my own and I just lost track of it all and gave up. Now my keyworker is always there for me and knows what I’ve been through. I’m improving each week and I’m getting back to my old self.”

Please make a direct donation today to help more young people like Carly. Your donation will enable us to provide personalised support to a young person so that they can move on from homelessness for good. For example it could:

  • give them some basics when they move in with no belongings
  • pay for a place on a training course which develops their confidence
  • enable access to a counsellor or specialist worker
  • buy them interview clothes when they're ready to get a job
  • provide extra support as they move to their own home

We'd love to hear your views on future fundraising events or what you think about homelessness in Leicester.

You can also donate directly to our drop in centre for homeless adults. We are grateful for food, clothing and toiletries to give out to those in need. Find out more
