Young Disabled Living: Open Event 10th March
Thursday, 1st March, 2012Leicester YMCA are proud to announce the opening of three highly desirable, fully accessible studio flats specifically for young people aged 16-25 who consider themselves to be disabled. Members of the public are invited to attend an open event between 11am - 1pm on Saturday 10th March to view the accommodation and talk to staff about living at Leicester YMCA.
The three flats have been created as part of the recent refurbishment of the city centre Grade 2 listed building which has just been announced the Winner of Leicester Civic Society's Restoration Award.
The accommodation is designed to encourage and empower young people who are ready for semi independent living to make the transition from the home environment. The dedicated staff team will support residents to develop independent living skills, access education, training and employment opportunities and ensure their health and emotional wellbeing needs are being met.
The spacious flats have bay window seats overlooking the station and are fully equipped to a high standard including gas central heating, electric oven, fridge freezer, washer/dryer, TV, bathroom and all furnishings.
"There isn't anything like this in the city that gives young disabled people the opportunity to try out living independently for the first time. These flats offer a safe environment with lots of support, a social network and great city centre location. I was very impressed with both the accessibility and quality of furnishings; everything has been thought of!" Sandra Holyoake, Service Manager for Leicester City's Disabled Children's Service
"The Y prides itself on being the best supported accommodation provision in the city and is committed to being a fully inclusive organisation. The development of these flats further confirm our commitment and ensures the needs of this often marginalised group of young people are met. The three flats benefit from an exclusive wing within the building with access via a private corridor." Paul Brown, Chief Executive of Leicester YMCA
Everyone is welcome to the open event. For further information or a private viewing please contact Emma Knight on 0116 2046224 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
