Customer Service Graduates celebrated
Friday, 1st May, 2009The achievements of eleven students were recognised at a presentation evening at Leicester YMCA last night. They were the first to complete the new Customer Service Training Course, which aims to get young people into work by offering work based training. One permanent job and two long term placements have already been secured following the course.
The contribution and dedication of these young people towards achieving their qualification and future employment has been admirable. Congatulations to Carla Ames, Jamie Brian, Lucy Campbell, Zoe Davies, Tekla Jules, Alex Rothnie, Elliot Smozynski, Toni Garrard, Ellie Troka, Shenade Walbrook and Katy White.
Leicester YMCA and it's arts venue The Y have presented opportunities for the learners to gain experience in bar, front of house, reception and box office roles. This included staffing a week of live Comedy Festival events and Homeless Link's Ending Rough Sleepers Regional Conference.
We would like to thank local businesses for offering work experience including Roy Vickers, Campanile Hotel, DeMontfort Hall, The Quarter and BMS Digital Solutions. We are now asking for more businesses to get involved by offering young people a longer work placement, with the expenses paid by Leicester YMCA.
Congratulations to Ellie Troka, who has been successful in her application for the job of receptionist at Leicester YMCA's Aylestone Centre since completing the course. Also to Katy White, who is currently doing a placement at BMS Digital and Tekla Jules, who has secured a work placement at the Samworth Academy, starting in their PE department.
Delivered in partnership with Skills Point and South Leicestershire College, the course enabled learners to gain an NVQ Customer Services qualification, alongside health and safety, food hygiene, basic skills and interview preparation.
The training was developed as part of the Places of Change project, funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government with the support of Leicester City Council. The first phase of the project in 2008 saw the renovation of the theatre, reception and bar areas. Further funding was obtained from Homeless Link to enable the course to run again so that more unemployed young people will benefit. The next course begins in June 2009.
